KATYA EVANS
The pancake has a long history, featured in cookery books from the 15th-Century and the tradition of flipping them dates back to 1619: “And every man and maide doe take their turne, And tosse their Pancakes up for feare they burne.” (Pasquil’s Palin).
We've pulled together a list our favourite spots to try in the present day. Enjoy a range of eateries across the Estate and celebrate Pancake Day in Canary Wharf this year.
CLUB VERTUS
Luckily, Club Vertus is more than ready to celebrate Pancake Day so you don’t have to leave the comfort of your building. Enjoy Pancake Day celebrations with The Breakfast Club at 8 Water Street on Wednesday 2nd March 2022, featuring many of their famous stacks.
THE BREAKFAST CLUB
Breakfast and brunch lovers unite – with ‘breakfast’ in the name it’s no surprise that The Breakfast Club doesn’t disappoint with its menu of a trio of mouth-watering options including pancakes with berries, berries and bacon and the locally world-famous pancakes: “Bacon, Egg and Cheese McLovin’”. If your Veganuary experiment became a permanent feature in your diet, look no further than this menu – the “Pancakes & Berries” can be served as a veggie or vegan dish.
CARAVAN
A new resident to the Wharf, located moments from the Jubilee Line entrance of Canary Wharf underground station, Caravan is a brilliant spot to savour pancakes for breakfast. Try two detectible dishes: buckwheat pancakes with roasted apple, lemon curd, pumpkin seed and sumac praline, or go for something less traditional with a slow-cooked pork belly and kimchi pancake. Open all day for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and everything in between there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy well-travelled alfresco dining any other day of the year too!
CAFÉ BRERA
Image yourself in a Milan-style espresso bar, soaking up the ambience of a classic European café, whilst enjoying fluffy homemade vanilla pancakes at Brera. Topped with fresh berries, this is a perfect fresh start to the day. What’s more, you can order the pancakes from their website to make at home too – experiment with even more garnishing.
THE IVY IN THE PARK
Home to a garden-inspired interior, The Ivy in the Park provides a perfect backdrop for a leisurely brunch this Pancake Day. Choose the hot buttermilk pancakes with a selection of berries, Greek yoghurt, lemon balm and strawberry sauce. If dining with a friend, you could savour the dish then try another plate from their pastries and toast section. Brunch is served until 11.15 am on Tuesday.
NOTES COFFEE ROASTERS & BAR
A classic American take on the fluffy stack, Notes will be serving a dish of pancakes with maple syrup. Sweet, sticky maple syrup and a smoky, crispy salty rasher of bacon is a sure-fire hit. Another option would be the pancakes served with vanilla ice cream and compote. Decadent and divine, you really can’t go wrong with the typical sweet combination.
Fanatical about fluffy pancakes? Canary Wharf’s diverse easting and dining scene have you covered this Shrove Tuesday.
