8 Water Street won the award for 'Best London Development' (HomeViews) in 2021 which we were thrilled about at Vertus and hope to continue the success throughout years to come.

1. Best London Development (HomeViews)
Our 8 Water Street building has taken headlines at the 2021 HomeViews Awards, winning three coveted prizes. Vertus itself also picked up three developer awards.
Each award is an incredible achievement and recognition of the design quality, passion for service and community-driven approach helping shape London’s premier renting experience: Vertus.
8 Water Street won Top London Development, and was shortlisted for the Top National Development (less than 250 units).
2. Joint No.1 BTR development for Location (HomeViews)
Location ratings were high across the board, with urban developments rated higher than newer suburban locations. Greater Manchester was a standout success for BTR. Though 8 Water Street kept London on the map, winning joint 1st with Duet MediaCityUK in M50. Speaking about 8 Water Street, Dan W, Verified Resident on HomeViews, said: “The view from the balcony is spectacular, especially at night!”
3. Top Rated BTR Development for Value (HomeViews)
Value in facilities. Value through additional services. Value of amenities, like wi-fi included. For a great Value score, tenants wanted all this – and to feel their experience surpassed expectations. Hidden costs were of course a big turn-off. 8 Water Street scored a very respectable Top 10.
4. Top Rated BTR Development for Facilities (HomeViews)
During 2020 Covid lockdowns, Facilities ratings understandably dropped. The bounce-back in 2021 was driven by London’s recovery. It’s things like concierge, communal inside space, bike storage and a gym that led tenants to give the best ratings. Which is why 8 Water Street starred in the Top 10.
5. Best Community Living - Finalist (British Homes Awards)
Celebrating excellence in British homebuilding, we were delighted to be a finalist for the 'Best Community Living' award in 2022.

Our Newfoundland apartment building, situated within Canary Wharf provides residents with expansive views across London and a refined approach to city living. As our tallest building, Newfoundland provides residents with access to private dining spaces, a self-service bar, a fully equipped gym, an outdoor terrace space, a screening room and a children's play area, this modern approach to city living allows residents to build a real sense of community and positive overall wellbeing. We’re proud to have been awarded the following accolades for Vertus Newfoundland:
1. Development of Outstanding Architecture - Highly Commended (Evening Standard New Homes Awards)
The 30th edition of the Evening Standard New Home Awards in 2021 presented the Newfoundland building with high commendation, this accolade celebrates the outstanding architecture of Newfoundland, the tallest Build to Rent tower in the UK. Designed by London architects Horden Cherry Lee and standing over 58 storeys high the building provides 636 stylish modern apartments with uninterrupted London views.
The Evening Standard New Homes Awards recognise the very best new homes across the UK, with 16 categories, encompassing the whole new-build market, from first-time buyer flats to luxurious mansions: from eco-homes to those with outstanding architectural merit, and from boutique apartment projects to large-scale regeneration schemes.
For the Development of Outstanding Architecture Merit Award, the panel of expert judges carried out a rigorous assessment of all properties, taking into consideration the architectural innovation, internal and external design along with how the architecture defines the overall quality of the scheme.
“Newfoundland, the tallest Build to Rent scheme in the UK is the latest milestone in the exciting development of the Canary Wharf estate as a place to live, work and play. Carefully thought-out engineering and architectural processes were implemented to create the remarkable diagrid structure and it is a great achievement for this work to be recognised by this accolade.’’ Alastair Mullens, managing director, vertus
2. Best Exterior Design and Best Build to Rent Project (WhatHouse?)
The WhatHouse? Awards, which have been running for more than 40 years, recognise customer-focused housebuilders delivering the best new homes across Britain. Canary Wharf Group’s Newfoundland has won two 2021 WhatHouse? awards, including Best Exterior Design (Silver) and Best Build to Rent Project (Bronze).
Commenting on the design of the building, the WhatHouse? judges said:
“The exterior design of Newfoundland is instantly recognisable with its warm silver diagrid distinguishing it from its commercial office neighbours in Canary Wharf, providing an impressive focus to the west end of Middle Dock. We were particularly impressed with the clever way the massive structural diagrid masks the apartments’ Juliet balconies – an intelligent idea that preserves the coherence of the overall design.”
3. Apartment Development of the Year - Finalist (British Homes Awards)
The British Homes Awards celebrates excellence in British homebuilding, and so we were delighted to be a finalist for the 'Apartment Development of the Year' in 2022.
VERTUS AWARDS
Vertus itself picked up three accolated at the HomeViews 2021 Awards:
1. No. 1 BTR Operator for Design (HomeViews)
With a Design Score of 4.86/5, Vertus outperformed the competition to win this most sought-after prize.
Alastair Mullens, Managing Director at Vertus, said:
“We know how significant it is for our customers to have a powerful first impression when they see the amenity spaces and apartments. What however is almost more important is that the furniture is comfortable, practical and durable. Our residents are living in these apartments so it was essential that the furniture looked brilliant but was also suitable for everyday life; cooking, eating, sleeping and working.”
2. Top Rated BTR Operator for Value (HomeViews)
Value has consistently received the lowest average rating of any of the HomeViews categories. However, according to HomeViews’ co-founder Hannah Marsh, “In the past year the Value rating for BTR saw the most significant increase of any HomeViews category. This suggests that there has never been a better time for BTR to make residents its biggest advocates.” With a Value Score of 4.50, Vertus achieved Top 5 status in the 2021 awards.
3. Top Rated BTR Operator for Management (HomeViews)
Although there was a small decrease in the average Management ratings in 2021, Vertus was one of just five landlords rated above average. In the words of Hannah, Verified Resident on HomeViews, speaking about 8 Water Street,
